Heading to SF's Pho Huynh Hiep 2, aka Kevin's Noodle House, today and will tell them they have Galley Girl to thank for my extra jumbo order -- such an enticing post! I'd like to hear from anyone raised in the avocado = savory camp who's tried a sinh to bo (avocado milkshake). I have yet to try the sweet treatment, though I've had many discussions with avocados-should-be-sweet friends where we both shake our heads at each other: "you eat it like THAT?"

Love this post. Kudos on trying Ngu Binh's Bun Bo Hue. It's definitely an acquired taste. I've not tried the pickled mangoes here, but I grew up with them...need to revisit my fond memories.

Dear Kelly,

I hope this finds you well. I’m a big fan of your Galley Girl blog and wanted to let you know about a fun culinary competition event coming up in Huntington Beach on Sunday, September 19th that I thought you might be interested in attending and letting your readers know more about. The event is our inaugural Orange County Sunday Night Chef Fight, and it will be held Sunday, September 19th at 6pm at the Standards of Excellence Kitchen Showroom in Huntington Beach.

Sunday Night Chef Fights are live cooking competitions pitting two local chefs of renown against each other in a head-to-head culinary battle in front of an audience of local food lovers and gourmets who get to act as judge, jury, and taste-cutioner. We launched the Sunday Night Chef Fights concept this summer in the Inland Empire, San Diego, and Orange County, and have had tremendous success so far, selling out our events in the Inland Empire in July and San Diego in August. We expect the same in Orange County as we’re lucky enough to have two exemplary local OC chefs competing in our inaugural Orange County Sunday Night Chef Fight—which we’re pitching as a “punk vs. Patina” showdown—as former punk drummer and current chef/owner of SteerCrazy International Grill & BBQ in Capistrano Beach Chef Phil Knoke takes on former Leatherby’s Café Rouge executive chef and current chef/owner of The Lido Deck in Newport Beach Chef Don Schoenburg in a knock-down, drag-out, no-holds-barred battle for culinary supremacy.

Tickets for the event are currently on sale at SundayNightChefFights.com, and you can go there for more information on the event and our competing chefs. I’d like to enclose our press release about the event as well as the one-sheet for our Chef Fight, but this form prohibits it, so please feel free to e-mail me at chris@sundaynightcheffights.com and I can pass along both pieces of information to you. We would love it if you could include a mention about our event on Galley Girl, as your blog is a must-read for any Orange County foodies, gourmets, and food lovers out there, and we’re trying to spread word about the Chef Fight to as many in the community as possible. If you have any questions or would like to know more about our Sunday Night Chef Fights, please don’t hesitate to contact me at the e-mail address or numbers below. I can also make either or both chefs or myself available for interviews, if that’s something you’d be interested in.

I would also like to personally invite you to join us on Sunday, September 19th for this inaugural Orange County Sunday Night Chef Fight. It’s going to be a terrific culinary event for Orange County food lovers and a fantastic opportunity to taste the creative outpouring of two of the most unique chefs in Orange County, so we hope you don’t miss out and can join us.

Thank you for your time. We appreciate any help you can offer in letting Orange County food lovers and gourmets know about our event. I look forward to speaking with you soon and hopefully will see you at our inaugural Orange County Sunday Night Chef Fight on September 19th at the Standards of Excellence Kitchen Showroom in Huntington Beach.

Cheers,

Chris
