Q: Free meals? Where do I sign up for this job!
A: Will Work For Food has long been a favorite Galley Girl mantra, but only in the sense that the magazines and newspapers I have worked for reimburse me for the costs of meals and pay me to write editorial articles. Restaurants never even know I’m there. Writing for Galley Girl is different. It’s a labor of love and I pay for everything myself, never announcing my presence. And frankly, in the age of Yelp, no one cares.
Q: Then why do you post a picture of yourself on your site?
A: This isn’t New York City, with restaurant managers posting photos of critics behind the hostess podium. Since I no longer work as a full length feature review critic, it’s not a huge deal. If I get that job again, and I’m trying, I’ll probably go with a modified Bieber, slap on some dark frames and be done with it.
Q: I have a restaurant question, how can I reach you?
A: Please leave a comment on any post and I will answer it in a future post.
Q: So, you just started a blog and that’s it?
Yeah, me and 100,000 other push button publishers! Food writing and opinion has never been more fresh and accessible. I’m looking forward to seeing where it’s all headed.
I’ve been writing about food in Orange County professionally for the last fifteen years. I freelanced the food column for OC Weekly from 1996-2000 and wrote restaurant reviews for Riviera Magazine from 2000-2009 and I’m currently freelancing articles for Orange Coast Magazine.
